Arctic Quest Slide Presentation Organizing Tools

HOW TO ORGANIZE A SLIDE PRESENTATION

Here are some ideas to bring the “Arctic Quest: Odyssey Through a Threatened Wilderness” program to your community. The following suggestions will help to ensure successful events.

 1) Make our presentations “community events,” by involving other groups: conservation groups, photography clubs, church groups, naturalist societies, League of Women Voters, Native American groups, college, university and faculty groups, etc. A broad range of Americans are interested in the Arctic Refuge.

· involve members of other groups in pre-show arrangements (poster distribution, interview arrangements, printing show details in newsletters, etc.)

 2) Book a public meeting place that seats at least 100 and preferably more. A 7:00 or 7:30 start is usually best for evening events.

· I need access to the room an hour before the scheduled time for our set-up. The presentation takes about 90 minutes.

· The room will need to be darkened for slides. Some rooms have built in screens, if there is no screen, please borrow the largest screen you can find that will fit.

· I’d like a tables for display items, preferably in a lobby or at the back of the room.

· I would like to ask for donations and sell books.

3) Publicize the event.  This is the most important for generating a large turnout.

 4) Contact the field offices of your Congressperson and Senators. Invite them to attend.

 5) Contact colleges and universities. Biology, Anthropology, Geography, Political Science, Public Policy and other departments may also be interested in this program.

 6) I would be pleased to do presentations/workshops during the day for; colleges, senior centers, public schools, service organizations, etc.

 7) Sponsorship

· Often businesses (outdoor retailers, restaurants, media outlets, etc) are pleased to help sponsor popular events such as this.

· Sponsorship may be in the form of: expense money, items for auction, advertising, etc.

If you have any questions, or there is anything we can do to help, please give Chad a call (740) 707-4110. I want to make this as easy as possible for you, while at the same time making sure we have a well-attended, dynamic event.

Thanks for your time! With your help we will ensure that the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is protected.
